The evolution of Municipal Administration as an integral part of Local Self-Government constitutes a fascinating chapter in the annals of our administrative evolution. The nature and limits of municipal functions need for development planning, the civic administration, financial management and allied problems such as urban poverty are critical issues in the study of Urban Management.
This is a study of the KORAPUT MUNICIPALITY of KORAPUT district. It gives a brief look at the KORAPUT MUNICIPALITY followed by the Urban Land Management under the KORAPUT Regional Improvement Trust (RIT) and the Financial Analysis of the budget 13-14. The study also presents the Urban Poverty scenario through Status a Report of the of the oldest slum of KORAPUT, (i) Availability of housing, (ii) Access to safe drinking water, (iii) Conditions of Roads and Drains, (iv)Sanitation/ Grey water disposal/ Solid Waste Management, (v)Availability of Medical facility, (vi) Availability/ Condition of School and Anganwaries, (vii) Livelihood Aspect and (viii)Interaction with Government Officials.
1. INTRODUCTION OF KORAPUT AND KORAPUT MUNICIPALITY
Koraput district has Three municipalities & One NAC, namely Koraput,Sunabeda,Jeypore and Kotpad. Among them KORAPUT stands apart as one of the towns of national repute because of the Central Universities.
2. PHISIOGRAPHY & DEMOGRAPHY
KORAPUT is located at 180481N Lat and 820421E Log in Koraput district of Odisha at an elevation of about 870 meters above mean sea level. The area of KORAPUT is 56.83 square kilometers approximately. Red laterite & Black Cotton are found here which are quite rich in minerals. The area near KORAPUT is Richly endowed with huge granite deposits on hills, rich forestst. KORAPUT is situated in a hilly region which adds to the natural beauty of the city. Koraput municipality is radially growing municipality. Jeypore – Vizianagaram Vijayawada- Ranchi corridor are intersected at center of the municipality. Maximum Growth Rate of town is noticed along the highway.
